So I went & saw Melissa Anelli today…
She gave a very good talk about Harry Potter and the Fandom and “The Flaw in the Plan” and her experiences in the fandom. It was probably about an hour-ish, followed by half an hour-ish of Q-and-A, followed by a book signing.
I got an awesome Dark Mark Tattoo, and I finally bought her book/got it signed =)
When I went to get my book signed, she identified me as “camera-girl” because I filmed 70+ minutes of it before my camera gave out (I was also directly in front of the podium, so it was actually good footage), and she told me I’m not allowed to put the footage on YouTube. Whoops. =P I don’t regret filming it though, because I still have it & I can show it to friends & stuff.
One of the most amusing parts was that this all took place at Catholic University (which is a short metro-ride away from College Park), which caused a lot of comments along the lines of “I need to stop say these things at Catholic University! Nobody’s going to Hell!”
The Q-and-A was pretty good. People were kinda shy about questions at first, but then most of the questions (with a few notable exceptions) were intelligent and interesting. And she provided thoughtful, intelligent answers (plus some Matt Lewis fangirling. I approve).
I asked 2 questions:
What scene from the books were you most disappointed to not see in the movies?
She said that she was disappointed that there was no Peeves in the movies, partially because Peeves is just such a great character, who would’ve added some much-needed lightness to the movies, and partially because of a few specific lines in Deathly Hallows. Particularly Ron’s response to Peeves’s song after the Battle is over.
-and-
What’s the most surprising thing to come out of the fandom?
She said that to her, A Very Potter Musical was the most unexpected, and she told the story of how she was one of the first people who didn’t see it live to see it because Steph Anderson sent her the DVD before it went up on YouTube, and how they watched it while they were on tour and they were all singing Going Back on the road the next day.
There are lots more things I could say, but this post is long enough already, so I’ll just say that the night was Totally Awesome. =)

NOTE TO SELF:
Posting something that you don’t want your Best Friend to know on a site that your Best Friend checks frequently is NOT a good idea.
It doesn’t matter if its anonymous. She will know that its you.
…and then things get awkward.

WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN, etc.
HOLY CRAP. I LOVE IT. Although, does that make Heather Graham Tonks? And baby Carlos Teddy? And that chick Doug’s marrying is Lily? …if Alan is Peter, does that make his Wolf-pack a Rat-pack?
