Why Ellen Page coming out is super cool (you know, other than the obvious reason):
- She is going to be playing real-life lesbian Stacie Andree in Freeheld, a movie based on the true story of Laurel Hester, a NJ police officer who fought to have her pension benefits assigned to her partner after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We all know how nice it is when openly gay actors get the chance to play gay figures. Also, Page has been attached to the movie since 2010 and has talked about how much she’s wanted to make it in interviews for the last four years, so it’s obviously a passion project for her.
- She is reportedly going to star in Queen & Country, a spy action movie based on the comic book of the same name. Comic book spy action flick with female lead: A+. Comic book spy action flick with female lead played by an openly gay woman: A+++
- She will co-star with bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood in Into The Forest, a movie about two sisters struggling to survive the collapse of society. Again, dystopian movies with two female leads: A+. Dystopian movie with two female leads played by two openly queer actresses: A++++++++
- She is going to make her directorial debut with Miss Stevens, starring Anna Faris. There aren’t nearly enough women directing movies right now, let alone gay women directing movies.
